As stated in a press release on April 21, 2017:

The City of South Padre Island is implementing Swift911 as the new technology to notify citizens, businesses and visitors of emergency situations. The emergency notification system is web-based, giving the City the ability to message any time of day or night.

Enrollment is an easy and secure process for inputting how you would like to be contacted in the event of an emergency. The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes. “This system is a great way to reach out and provide citizens with vital information when time is of the essence,” stated Susan Guthrie, City Manager. “Enrollment is voluntary and encouraged.” There are two ways to get enrolled in emergency notifications using Swift 911.

1.) http://www.myspi.org/eGov/apps/document/center.egov?view=item;id=5841
2.) Enroll via the portal or you can download the Swift911 public app. If you text swift911 to the number 99538 you will be sent a link to download the app onto your phone.
Features Include: * Swift911™ Mobile App – Alerts from Your Smart Phone! * Voice, Text, Email, Social Media, RSS, IPAWS * Automated Weather Alerts

This does not preclude you from calling 911 for emergencies.

Swift911 provides an opportunity to send out critical information if and when the need arises.
